Easy bread delight..

Here is an easy Bread custard recipe, made with very few ingredients. As no thickening agent is used here, going with the term custard and not pudding.

A couple of days back, happened to visit my mom’s dear friend and our neighbor Viji aunty. It was there that I tasted this easy to make delicious Bread custard. Though I do make Bread pudding, had always been making eggless version. So this one tasted pretty different and refreshing with the egg imparting body to the custard.

So here is Aunty’s Bread custard that is easy to make as well as yummy. Also do try out the recipe for Caramel custard pudding.

Bread custard recipe

Ingredients:
(Have taken 1cup=250 ml)

Custard

  • Milk – 1 Ltr.
  • Sugar – 3/4 cup ( Adjust to taste )
  • Egg – 3 nos.
  • Bread – 4 slices
  • Vanilla essence – 1 tsp.

Caramel

  • Sugar – 5 tbsp.
  • Water – 2 tbsp.

Method:

  • Take milk in a non stick pan and dissolve sugar in it.
  • Cut the bread slices into cubes and add a little milk to soak the bread pieces.
  • Break the eggs in a bowl and beat well to get a frothy texture.
  • Now add the soaked bread along with the beaten eggs into a blender.
  • Blend to a smooth texture and transfer to a bowl.
  • Add vanilla essence, whisk and keep this aside.
  • To make caramel, add 5 tbsp. of sugar along with 2 tbsp. of water into a sauce pan.
  • Caramelize the sugar till it reaches a deep golden color.
  • Pour into a round wide tin.
  • Pour the custard onto the caramel layer.
  • Steam in a cooker/steamer for 30-40 mins./till a skewer inserted comes out clean.

Note:

  • This custard will have a smooth oozy center and will not set into a jelly as no thickening agent or jelling agent is used. Try the pudding variation of this custard by adding a tbsp. of cornflour into the custard and reducing till it thickens.
  • The sugar quantity to be adjusted as per taste.
