White Chocolate Mazarine

A Swedish delight at its best

These are nothing but Swedish almond tarts a.k.a. Mazarine. These sweet bites are nothing short of a party snack. The yummy almond filling that forms the body of the Mazarines, give a rich taste to these tarts. 

Having said this, I need to mention that my hubby being not a sweet loving person devoured a couple of them in one go. Furthermore, to my surprise and his delight, he happened to pack the remaining ones for his office colleagues.J

So without any further ado, lemme just move on with the recipe for this tasty cakey pie. –

Prep time: 30 mins.; Cooking time: 25 mins.

Serves: 10 nos.

(Have taken 1 cup = 240 ml.)

  • All-purpose-flour: 90 gms (approx.2/3rd of a cup)
  • Butter: 60 gms
  • Caster Sugar: 50 gms (approx.1/6th of a cup)
  • Egg: 1 (yolk)
  • Almond essence: Few drops

Filling

  • Butter: 60 gms
  • All-purpose-flour: 25 gms (approx.1/8th of a cup)
  • Caster Sugar: 40 gms (approx.1/8th of a cup)
  • Eggs: 2 nos.
  • Almond paste: 100 gms
  • Vanilla essence: Few drops
  • White chocolate: For topping

  • Take soft butter in a mixing bowl and whisk it with caster sugar.
  • Add the egg yolk along with almond essence and mix well.
  • To this well combined mix, add in the flour and round off the dough.
  • Knead with hand till a smooth and soft dough is obtained.
  • Keep the dough refrigerated.

  • Add the Almond paste to the mix and combine.
  • Put eggs one at a time along with vanilla essence and whip to get a creamy batter.
  • Add the flour and mix with the batter.
  • By now you should have a lump free smooth batter.
  • Keep this filling aside.

here Assembling

  • Take the dough from the refrigerator and line the muffin tray with the dough.
  • Spread the dough evenly to get uniform thickness for the mazarine shells.
  • Now pour the filling into these shells.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180C for 25 mins. /till the filling of the mazarine looks well done and golden.
  • Keep aside till the mazarines come to room temperature, and then finish off by coating the crust with a layer of melted white chocolate.

  • The dough could be prepared ahead and kept refrigerated.
  • Plain white sugar could be used in place of caster sugar, but would require more whipping to infuse with the butter.

8. Now add the flour and stir in with the mix to get a smooth, lump free batter. Keep the filling aside.

9. Line the muffin cups evenly with the dough.

10. Pour the filling into the lined tray.

11. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180C for 25 min./ till the filling of the mazarine looks well done and golden.

12. Keep the mazarines aside until it comes to room temperature. Melt white chocolate either in a microwave or using a double boiler and coat the top of the mazarines with a layer of the chocolate and serve.
