A simple yet delicious sweet bite, made with the simplest of ingredients, producing one of the finest delicacies – the Doodh Peda. Just 3 ingredients and a little bit of cooking is all that is involved here, yielding one of the most sought after sweet treats in the Indian market.

Takes me back to my school days yet again when I used to accompany my dad to the Nandini milk booth near to our place, just to get my hands on the most favourite Doodh peda. To this date, there is no other bakery or peda brand that I love more than this particular one – or may be because I’ve had it so many times, that it’s taste still lingers on my taste buds and I never get to like any other Doodh peda quite like this one. 🙂 🙂

So here’s my home made version of the Easy Doodh peda.

Easy Doodh peda recipe

Prep time: 10 mins.; Cooking time: 30 mins.

Ingredients:

  • Full cream milk – 1 ltr.
  • Yogurt – 4 tbsp.
  • Sugar – 3 tbsp.

Method:

  • Take milk in a sauce pan and bring to boil.
  • Now add yogurt, continue cooking and let the milk curdle.
  • Keep cooking till all the milk curdles and the whey separates.
  • Strain till the curled milk solids separate.
  • Transfer the milk solids on to a non-stick pan.
  • Add sugar and keep stirring till all the remaining water evaporates.
  • Continue stirring and cooking on the lowest heat till the solids gets a light brownish colour uniformly.
  • Remove from heat and transfer to a mixer jar.
  • Blitz till a smooth mass is obtained.
  • Transfer on to a plate and make small roundels.
  • Flatten the pedas using soft hands.

Note:

  • Do not throw away the whey strained from the milk solids as it is super nutritious. It could be used to make soft dough for chapatti, poori or any kinds of similar breads.
  • If the milk doesn’t curdle completely, add a tbsp. more of yogurt.
  • Blitz the milk solids while it’s still warm. Do not wait for the mix to cool down completely.
  • Adding a pinch of saffron would give a rosy effect to the Doodh peda. 😉 Do try out this variation as well.
